Snowflake - Yea or Nay?

This morning at the end of my morning meditation, I ended up with this shit-eating grin on my face... I had connected with my own preciousness.  My hands were twisted in a knot like a three year old might make when tickled with joy.

Damn, but it IS true.  I wish we could feel this truth each day.  Whether it is fleeting or constant, it is true.  We are precious beings.  Each one of us.  Precious.  Unique.  Full of this special inner beauty like that unique “snowflake.”

This our Divine nature.

Many years ago, my kids were into that movie “Fight Club.”   There is this line where Edward Norton yells emphatically “Listen up, maggots - You are not special. You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake.  You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else.

It’s a powerful line because it walks straight up to the mirror and says “No! I am nothing!  I am not special. I am not precious or beautiful. There is nothing beyond my flesh.”

Yet, even as our fears speak out loudly, there is always a part of us that stands back unwilling to commit to this terminal prognosis.

Two sides of the coin.  I name them, love and fear.  Mutually exclusive in a single moment.

Our choice in this matter is a self fulfilling prophecy.  Our choice becomes our creation.

My choice this morning made me smile, it made me wrap my arms around myself and cuddle myself like a puppy dog.  “Yes. Yes. I am precious.”

From this position, you appear precious too.

We can chose the world we live in.  Today, I’m living in a precious world of love … and from this perspective - you are with me, precious as well.
